Origins and philosophy

The Pak Mei (“White Eyebrow”) style of kung fu is known for its explosive power, direct approach to combat and efficiency. In the tradition presented here, it is the first martial art in the Shaolin system to favour the “shortest path” : eliminating unnecessary movement to strike with precision, speed and power.

It incorporates Shaolin's five combat forms, emphasizing the power of the Tiger, which breaks the opponent's bridge through force, and the precision of the Leopard, which targets vital points with the Phoenix Eye fist.

A shared heritage

Pak Mei combines Taoist techniques with Shaolin combat principles. This meeting creates an unpredictable system that challenges traditional close-range strategies. According to this tradition, its influence led to the development of Wing Chun, conceived in response to its methods.

The origins of Pak Mei

The history of Grandmaster Pak Mei remains among the most debated in kung fu. He is said to have continued refining and transmitting his system in secret. For more than three centuries, practitioners have preserved this heritage, its philosophy and its combination of internal and external power.

Key characteristics

Every movement aims for direct action, driven by body coordination and mastery of contact.

01

Speed and explosiveness

Sharp, fast and explosive strikes. The shortest path eliminates excess movement to concentrate power.

02

Pressure and initiative

Unpredictable attacks and sustained pressure to create openings and maintain the initiative in close-range combat.

03

Animal stances

The Leopard's head, Bear's back and Rooster's claw shape the stances, developing agility, stability and control.

Levels and progression

A simplified overview of the curriculum. Progression and teaching are adapted to each student's path.

01

Beginner level

  • Physical foundations: stances, Rooster and Horse footwork, coordination and stability.
  • Four internal methods: discovering Tun (absorbing), Tou (projecting), Fou (lifting and unbalancing) and Chum (lowering and controlling).
  • First forms: an introduction to Kuens, including the Four Gates Path and Simple Power, to work on angles of attack and defence.
  • Hand techniques: first applications of the eight methods: whipping, cutting, holding, striking, rebounding, breaking, wrapping and crushing.
02

Intermediate level

  • Deepening the forms: work on the Three Small and Three Great Questions, the Four Linked Horses and the animal forms of the Dragon, Snake, Crane, Tiger and Leopard.
  • Developing power: coordinating the body, shoulders, waist, limbs, neck and abdomen—the six sources of strength.
  • Bridge work: progressive conditioning, contact control and applications of the Iron Bridge.
  • Introduction to weapons: pole, broadsword and double knives to develop precision, coordination and the application of power.
03

Advanced level

  • Refining the Kuens: deepening complex forms, footwork, evasion and ground work, including the 108 Horse movements and 72 ground movements.
  • Weapons mastery: refining the broadsword, double broadswords, three pole forms, double knives, straight sword and tonfa.
